Who we are
Rackside is a small team testing a better way to learn the American mahjong card. See the Card is our first mahjong product.
We're new to teaching mahjong, and we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise. We didn't set out to write a rulebook. We set out to answer one question: why does the card feel so hard for newer players?
What we found is that the card has a structure. Its hands are grouped into families, and the families come back year after year. Once you can see them, you can look at your own tiles and know which part of the card to read. That's the method in See the Card, and it's built entirely from how the card is organized. We never reprint the card. You use your own.
What we care about
- Getting it right. If you find a mistake, please tell us at hello@seethecard.com. We'll fix it and email you the corrected file.
- Being easy to read. Big type, high contrast, and color that never works alone.
- Being straight with you. No countdown timers, no made-up reviews, no inflated "regular price." The price is the price, and the 30-day refund covers your whole order.
Where the game comes from
Mahjong is a Chinese game that took shape in the 1800s, during the Qing dynasty. It came to America in the 1920s, and the American game, with its yearly card, grew up around a players' league founded in New York in 1937 by a group of Jewish women. We're grateful to everyone who carried it this far.
